Mold from Ice Dams

Mold Remediation Mold from Ice Dams Call SERVPRO of Ashtabula & North Trumbull Counties at the first sign of ice dam water damage 440-319-3360

What is an Ice Dam?

An ice dam is a accumulation of ice in a gutter or on the edge of the roof that forces water against the grade of the roof and into a home or business.

Ice dams can also form around skylights, vents or valleys in the roof.

Ice dams form when heat from inside the structure rises through the ceiling and warms the roof. Snow falls on the heated parts of the roof and melts. The melted snow then flows down the roof until it reaches the part of the roof that is lower than 32°F. The water freezes and begins to form an ice dam.

As more snow melts and refreezes, the ice dam can grow larger and pools behind the large wall of ice.

Over time the water works its way through the shingles or other roofing materials and flows through the roof decking down through the ceiling, interior walls and other parts of the structure.

If left unresolved, the water damage can lead to microbial growth.

If you notice an ice dam and water intrusion to your home or business this winter, call SERVPRO of Ashtabula & North Trumbull Counties 440-319-3360

Our highly-trained cleanup & restoration professionals have the experience and resources available to help make ice dam damage "Like it never even happened."

Mold Damage Cleanup in Ashtabula, Ohio

Confusion and misunderstanding surround the topic of mold and mold remediation. Some restoration businesses even make claims to remove all mold from a building. This is a fallacy. Mold spores occur naturally almost everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. These microscopic spores float along in the air and can enter a home or business through windows and HVAC systems. Consider these facts about mold in your Ashtabula home:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

Control the Mold

10/3/2016 (Permalink)

Mold is most likely to grow in a moist atmosphere, so it is common for mold to appear in your home after a flood or as leak. Although mold is expected to appear in moist areas, action should be taken immediately after it begins to grow to prevent the fungus from spreading. Mold can cause allergic reactions such as, watery eyes, runny nose and coughing. The best way to prevent mold from occurring is by controlling the moisture in your home. Molds are not limited to growing on one particular surface; mold can grow on your walls, floors, carpets, appliances, and furniture. DIY Mold Remover

9/9/2016 (Permalink)

It is hard to maintain a clean bathroom but there are multiple ways to keep your bathroom clean. Shower grout is common and mixing baking soda with bleach could bring your shower back to normal. If you do not like using harsh chemicals like bleach you could consider replacing it with lemons. Another way to remove mold is by combining baking soda with liquid soap and essential oils. Just mix the two products and scrub the grout with a tooth brush. Sometimes mold inconveniently occurs and surrounds your bathtub. Soaking cotton balls with bleach and placing it along the stained/moldy area caulking overnight will remove the mold. For hard water build up you can mix lemon juice, vinegar, and dish soap to remove the grime in unwanted areas.

Does your Geneva Home Have a Mold Problem?

8/1/2016 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
