YOU are the Best Water Damage Detector!

Did you know that when it comes to water damage you are the best detector? It is quite simple actually – all you must do is use four of your five senses around your house.
Your Nose: Have you ever gone to the pool and then left your towel and wet suit balled up in a bag for about a week? It has quite a distinct odor. Wet materials and stagnant water usually emit a moldy, mildew scent that is hard to miss. If you are smelling this odor in your home, try to find the source.
Your Ears: If you hear a trickling sound or water dripping when no one is using the plumbing, there is probably a leak somewhere.
Your Eyes: Look for discoloration and stains on your walls or your ceiling. This is an obvious sign of water damage and possible mold growth happening in your insulation behind your walls and above you. If you notice any paint on your walls or ceiling that is peeling, cracking, bubbling, or blistering, this could mean recent water damage or previous damage before you moved in.
If your water bill seems to have skyrocketed in the past few months something may be happening behind the scenes. If water is constantly leaking and being wasted, it is going to increase your water bill.
Your Touch: When wooden materials absorb water, they swell up and become larger. This can be noticeable in door frames. If your doors are suddenly much more difficult to open, the frame of the door may be absorbing water.
